Ok, I’ll get this out right away. I’m a big fan of link-style golf courses, so StoneRidge Golf Club in Stillwater is a no-brainer course for me to be a fan of.
I haven’t played any other Bobby Weed design courses to compare it to, but if they are like StoneRidge, sign me up. Smooth, fast fairways and rarely a tree in your way and the greens are usually fairly decent sized and have a good amount of break (well, at least where I leave my shots they do).
With the lack of trees, the winds whip across the course and make it fast and fun. There are a few holes that remind me of the long gone Mississippi Dunes layout; the winds of summer would dry out the course and it would be nothing short of fast, fast, fast. Not everyone liked it, but The Dunes was an amazing course.
I unfortunately photographed StoneRidge while playing. I’d much rather have the time to stop and photograph a hole with specific light on it than while I’m playing, but I think it worked out pretty well.
StoneRidge is on my “must play” course list for 2025, along with about 100 other courses. They were on my 2024 “must play” list as well but that didn’t happen. The last time I played there, we were caught in severe weather and they sounded the horns TWICE throughout our round. Some of the photos you can see the rain off in the distance. And storm clouds always give me great shots, so I wanted to stay out as long as I could before the rain and lightning hit.
Have you played StoneRidge, and what’s your opinion of the course? Do you like links style layouts or would you rather have target golf through trees and a ton of water? Heavily contoured fairways and greens? Let me know!
